In June 2024, Antonio López received two awards for his artistic work.
The first was the award given by ADN Forum at the National Archaeological Museum on the 4th, which recognized not only his career but also what his work has contributed to Madrid city. It coincides with the fact that the view he painted between 1961 and 1962 of the façade of the archaeological museum, View of Madrid (Archaeological Museum from Serrano Street), is being exhibited in the Archaeological Museum on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the restoration of its building. In addition to his recognition, the rest of the prizes were awarded for archaeological research work (Palarq Foundation), cultural restoration (Iberdrola Foundation), and conservation and rehabilitation of cultural heritage (the Puerta de Alcalá by the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain). On the other hand, on June 6, the XL Weekly 2024 Prize for Creation was presented to him at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, honouring his entire artistic career and dedication since he was 13. The rest of this year's winners are the doctor Valentín Fuster, the philosopher Adela Cortina and the producer Paco Arango. As part of the exhibition "Antonio López and the Masters of Spanish Realism", organized by the Cervantes Library in Shanghai, dependent on the Spanish Consulate in China, and coinciding with a visit to the country by the Director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, the Primary students from the Beishuiwan Experimental School took part in the closing event of the exhibition on April 19.
This event has been part of the activities created around the exhibition of reproductions of paintings and drawings by several Spanish figurative artists that opened in the Shanghai metro last November 2023 and that included the so-called realists of Madrid, among whom is Antonio López.
The exhibition will continue its journey through the country, travelling to other cities. The Cultural Office of the Spanish Consulate in Shanghai generated both the exhibition and the activities around it. From the Studio of Antonio López and María Moreno, we want to thank the work carried out by its Director, Inmaculada González Puy.
An exhibition has been inaugurated at the Royal Palace of Madrid to commemorate 50 years of bilateral relations between China and Spain, which will remain open until May 26, 2024. It is an exhibition of figurative works by 99 contemporary Chinese and Spanish artists called "Beyond Realism. Figurative art of China and Spain".
These paintings offer a panorama of figurative art, not simply realism, practised in both countries over the last fifty years.
The first of the exhibition rooms shows paintings and drawings by Antonio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Francisco López, María Moreno, Julio López, Amalia Avia, Isabel Baquedano and Carmen Laffón.
It is a fine opportunity to learn about contemporary art practised by artists from both countries and discover their parallels and differences.

The painting by Antonio López, View of Madrid (Archaeological Museum from Serrano Street), from the BBVA Collection, is the invited work to celebrate ten years of renovation of the Madrid Archaeological Museum building. This view is displayed in the so-called ZERO Showcase, which explains the museum's history along with other objects and artworks.
This painting shows the building and its surroundings between 1961 and 1962. It has rarely been exhibited, so it is an excellent chance to see it until July 16th.

This museum has been created thanks to the impulse of the painter Andrés García Ibáñez, who together with the Ibáñez Cosentino Foundation, has founded other museums in Almería capital and province focused on figurative and realistic art, especially from the Almería region. Specifically, the Foundation manages the Ibáñez Museum, the Pérez Siquier center and the Almeriense Art Collection.
